Senior Citizen’s Committee – Our Mandate

“The Senior Citizens’ Committee’s mandate is to improve the quality of life for disadvantaged seniors through support services and programs. The Committee will also identify and research meaningful senior’s projects in the community, and provide grant requests to utilize funds that the Foundation has isolated for seniors projects.”

The multi-year, multi-vehicle grant program with SPRINT (TORONTO RIDE) has completed its second year of partnership.

The Annual Senior’s Christmas Party, once again was held at the Royal York Hotel with great success. Senior guests were from Second Mile Club, Kensington Gardens, Salvation Army, Yonge Street Mission, Little Trinity Church, The Church of Resurrection, Sunshine Centre for seniors, SPRINT and, new this year, Sistering and St. Matthew's Bracondale House.  200 shut-in or housebound seniors on low income attended. Guests were entertained by Rotarians – carolling, Crescent School’s Choir and a visit from Santa.  Many generous Rotarians provided transportation, supported the “take a senior to lunch” program, donated towards the generous gift bags and volunteered their time/talent to make it the success it was.

Finally, the annual picnic took place on June 20th, 2019 at the Second Mile Club.

Our philanthropic budget of $10 000.00 was spent as follow:
  • $3750 to Dancing with Parkinson, a Toronto-based dance program for those living with Parkinson's Disease that increases awareness of the body in stillness and motion, for 10 intergenerational dance workshops.
  • $1250 to Sistering, a multi-service charitable organization offering assistance to women age 16 to 80+,  for their Seniors Walking project (in partnership with the Environment Committee)
  • $4000 to The Alzheimer Society, which offers support, information and education to people with dementia, their families and their caregivers, for their Active Living Program
  • $940.60 for the July 2018 and June 2019 Second Mile Picnic
