Souleik Kheyre - 2012 Scholarship Winner and Keynote Speaker

Souleik was our Club’s first scholarship winner. As an undergraduate student, she belonged to the Rotaract Club of the University of Toronto and actively participated in The Rotary Club of Toronto events. Throughout her undergraduate years, Souleik worked with high school students in a mentorship capacity while helping them secure employment. During the summer after her undergraduate degree and before starting her Master’s, she worked as a Facilitator/Job Developer on the Youth Job Connection Summer Program at St. Stephen’s Employment and Training Centre.

Souleik completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in June, 2016 with a double major in International and Employment Relations and a minor in African Studies. She has finished up her last course, International Human Resources Development and Labour Law for her Masters of Industrial Relations & Human Resources program at the University of Toronto. She finished one portion of her course by travelling to Belgium, France and Switzerland to learn from labour and trade experts and leaders from the European Commission, the International Labour Organization, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. She is considering working abroad in the future.

Souleik is set to officially graduate from her Master’s program in November 2017. She is currently preparing for the LSAT, with the objective of attending law school in September of 2018. 

Rotary Club of Toronto Scholarship Winner 2017

Lorenzo Penate - 2017 Scholarship Winner. Lorenzo immigrated from Cuba with his mother 10 years ago. He was this year’s recipient of The Rotary Club of Toronto Scholarship. He is in his first year studying Business Administration at York University’s Schulich School of Business. In addition to his strong academic performance, Lorenzo was actively involved at his school and in the community, including drama/theatre and volunteering at the Salvation Army. He worked with Peer Leaders to improve his leadership skills and created The Vibe Club, to positively reach out to and mentor younger students. Lorenzo was the leader of his school’s Safe Schools Action Team bringing awareness and assisting students in areas of substance abuse, healthy relationships, bullying, impaired driving and peer mentoring.  Lorenzo was drawn to the sport of Boxing at an early age for its mental discipline, positive thinking, leadership and physical fitness. He felt it could benefit others, leading him to run the After School Boxing Program at his high school.
