The Rotary Club of Toronto Health Bus Program

For up-to-date information on the recent grant of $250,000 to The Sherbourne Health Centre to provide them with two new health buses, to replace the bus given to them them ten years ago by The Rotary Club of Toronto, click on the link below. These buses travel the downtown area of Toronto taking healthcare to the marginlized citizens of Toronto.

Sherbourne Health Centre reports that the number of volunteer nurses working on the twin vehicles has grown to 71. On top of this, there are another 15 volunteers providing other types of support.
The nurses advise that visits average 575 each week and that records show 35 different health challenges are met including diabetes, bed bug bites, schizophrenia, hepatitis C, and HIV/AIDS.
The two buses took to the streets in May 2006 and still make 13 stops working with partner agencies, including Out of the Cold (resuming in November).
Introduced in 1996 this extraordinary effort continues to help solve health problems for homeless and underhoused people in the south east area of Toronto. Every member of our Rotary Club is honoured to be part of this service.
