RESEARCH & APPEALS COMMITTEE

This committee is a standing committee of the Club’s Foundation that investigates appeals for financial assistance for projects within Toronto (preferably in the downtown area), giving priority to the fields of health, education, youth and welfare. It makes recommendations to the Foundation Board supporting seed money and new initiative requests rather than for operating costs. The requesting agencies are required to have registered charitable status, demonstrate the seriousness of the problem as well as the ability to achieve lasting results.

The committee is comprised of Rotarians who are drawn from the membership of our Club and who represent a variety of corporate and professional segments. They bring their expertise, knowledge of the charitable sector and leadership skills to research, analyze and recommend on requests for grants.
The Research & Appeals committee created guidelines based on the criteria as outlined above, for use by the Club’s Philanthropic committees as they researched, screened and developed their final Centennial project choices. R & A also acted as an invaluable resource by appointing a committee member to work closely with the Philanthropic committees to provide objective assistance and support.

CENTENNIAL PROJECT – INCREASED BUDGET FOR ADDITIONAL PROJECT FUNDING

In celebration of the Club’s Centennial celebration and in-keeping with marking this important milestone, the Committee will have an expanded budget for allocation to additional appeals received from the community.

This committee receives a significant number of requests on an annual basis and grants are made within the limits of our annual budget allocation. Many of the organizations that make requests for funding come from a wide spectrum of “grass roots” agencies in the City of Toronto, with very limited outreach into areas of significant resources and profile. It is our Club and Foundation’s mandate to bring Hope and Dignity to all in need.

In our Centennial year, an additional $50K will be available to fund these requests.
