Water & Sanitation an important Rotary initiative

The Team Water Committee was set up in November 2007 and has since that time carried out an extensive search in Canada and the rest of the World to find, to the best of its ability, a project that could deliver potable water and provide sanitation to the maximum number of people who currently do not have such facilities, consistent with the U.N. Development Goal # 7 which is " To reduce by 50 % by 2015 the proportion of people without access to safe water and sanitation"

The Club Board has approved such a project in Zomba, Malawi in association with the Rotary Club of Limbe, Malawi to bring water to an estimated 60,000 people through the development of new water wells and the rehabilitation of existing ones. The estimated cost is $150,000 over 3 years of which the Rotary Club of Toronto will provide $50,000 in 2008/9.The balance of the funding will be met through District and R.I. matching grants.

We will continue to keep you posted of any progress through out the project.
