Part of a District-wide initiative, this has been adopted by the District as a Rotary Millennium Project. The activity of the committee began in the provision of in-kind and cash contributions to nine downtown Toronto agencies working with pregnant women at risk. Its function has now grown to include the production of a Position Statement "Why investing in Canada's children makes good economic sense for all of us", endorsed by Rotary and a number of other community groups in 1999; and the development of a national petition to be circulated for signature in the Autumn of 2000, calling on the Federal Government to develop a National Children's Agenda and Action Plan by 2001.
