TARC (Toronto Adolescent Recovery Centre) was a project that began as result of this Club's "Letters to a Street Child" project back in the '90s. Since that time the club has provided financial and board representation support to the development of this program designed to provide services to youth 13-18, with severe substance abuse. The organization received charitable registration status recently and we are extremely proud of having been a part of this much-needed program. TARC's new high school campus, newly named the Pine River Institute, will open in the spring of 2006. The institute will include a treatment centre and a school for troubled youth. The Institute is located northwest of Toronto on 200 acres of property owned by the Toronto District School Board. This is the only facility of this kind operating in the province of Ontario. Youth needing treatment previously had to be sent to the United States for this important health intervention.
