District Conference June 25, 26

District Governor Mark Chipman challenged every club in District 7070 to get out on Saturday, June 26th for a sweat equity project - and we responded. I was joined by Chialing Ku, Daniel Massicotte, Jonathan Wu, Kevin Power, Mark McQuitty, Bill Empey and Andrea Tirone - plus Andrea's partner Lucas joined me to walk the streets of downtown Toronto from Grange Park (just north of Queen West and west of University Ave) to points east and west. Together we collected about 20 bags of waste. It was a great day, the weather cooperated and we were able to make downtown Toronto a tad cleaner. In addition, the volunteers donated a number of household items that went towards the home starter kits for Fred Victor. Fred Victor is a charitable organization that fosters long-lasting and positive change in the lives of homeless and low-income people living across Toronto. The home starter kits goes towards their affordable and transitional housing program that helps shelter individuals move into supporting housing on their own. The RCT Community Service Committee has been supporting this initiative since April of last year and we have helped over 10 individuals in moving into their own unit with new and gently used household items for a fresh start!

District Wrapup and Awards, June 30, 2021
Outgoing District Governor Mark Chapman led a fun, visual-filled final meeting with Rotarians from across the District.
Our club received several Awards.
Norm Simpson Award for International Service - to Rotary Clubs of Whitby-Sunrise, Toronto, and Toronto Danforth
This trophy is awarded annually to the club in the district that made the most outstanding contribution to the International Service of Rotary during the preceding Rotary year.
The Rotary Foundation Trophy Certificate - to The Rotary Club of Toronto
This is awarded to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Programs for the previous Rotary year ending June 30th, ours for clubs with more than 50 members.
The Devon & Linda Biddle Annual Fund Certificate - to The Rotary Club of Toronto
This award is given to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Annual Fund Program for the previous Rotary year ending June 30th, ours for clubs with more than 50 members.
The Bill & Delphine Patchett Polio Plus Certificate - to The Rotary Club of Toronto
This award is given to the three clubs that have the highest per capita contribution to The Rotary Foundation Polio Plus Fund Program for the previous Rotary year ending June 30th, ours for clubs with more than 50 members.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Award - awarded to the Club(s) or Rotarian(s) who made the greatest contribution to the advancement of diversity, equity and inclusion: to The Rotary Club of Toronto, To John Currie (Rotary HIP), and Rotary Club of Toronto Danforth
Enthusiastic Rotaractor Award: This is awarded to Rotaractors who ALWAYS showed enthusiasm when at Rotary, Rotaract, or affiliate events. They bring the energy and keep us entertained. Period. Dayna Nelson (Rotaract Club Of Toronto)
District Outstanding Clubs Award: This award is for the large, medium and small Clubs which best reflect the themes of Rotaract and the District. TORONTO ROTARACT
Mark also thanked John Fortney and Maureen Bird for working to raise a district total of $26,200 for volcano disaster relief being done by St. Vincent Rotary Clubs.

We will miss Patti Wright
It is with a heavy heart to announce that we lost one of our fellow Rotarians and District Team members, Patti Wright, on June 25th, 2021.
Patti acted ad Assistant District Governor to our club for a few years. She never missed our Children's Christmas Party. Her father Joe was a member of our club until his untimely death.
Patti will missed by her Toronto West Rotary Club and District 7070 Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors for her passion for Rotary and Youth Services, especially the Interactor program. Below is a copy of Patti's Obituary including the Funeral Webcast link for Wednesday, July 21st, 2021 at 2pm.
