Thinking of travelling again? It’s a different world out there and there are some things you’ll need to know. Today’s speaker is our own Mary Lach, an Independent Travel Advisor with TTI Travel and panelists: Lori Patterson, Business Development Manager for Holland America and Seabourn Luxury Cruise Line and Susan Lawson, Business Development Manager for ALLIANZ Global Assistance (Travel insurance), who’ll tell us what’s ahead of us when we plan our first trip.
 
MARY LACH,  has a passion for travel and adventure, which led her into the travel industry 30+ years ago. Travel has always been a big part of her life with appreciation for art, fascinating history, exploring different cultures and way of life.  Her knowledge and experience had allowed her to launch Sunsations Travel 25 years ago.  As an accomplished consultant and cruise specialist, her attention to detail allows her to craft unique itineraries for her repeat clientele to have an extraordinary travel experience.
 
To her, it is a great privilege and immensely satisfying to have clients entrust her with making their travel dreams come true.
Lori Patterson
 
I have been privileged to work with Carnival Corporation as a Business Development Manager for Holland America line since 2000 here in Ontario. My sales territory is Eastern Canada so I spend a great deal of time travelling and visiting travel agents to talk about my passion, Cruising!   Before I worked with Holland America Line, I was a Travel Agent in Alberta, where I was born and raised, for 20 years and was very lucky to have travelled and cruised to many parts of the world which has been a great gift.  
When I am not cruising or travelling for work, I love to spend time with my husband, Doug and daughter Savanah who just left for university life!  So we will have a little more time to cruise!
We are avid skiers and hikers, and our dog keeps us walking on the Georgian Trail daily at our home in the Blue Mountains!
Susan Lawson
 
Susan is an accomplished travel industry executive and business entrepreneur.  She has developed a well-rounded portfolio of experience over the 30-year plus career in the travel industry.  Susan has successfully managed a full range of travel and tourism responsibilities on both the wholesale and retail side of the business.  
 
In 2015 she joined Allianz Global Assistance.  With her extensive business experience, passion for travel and out-of-box problem solving skills works closely as a dedicated Business Development Manager for TTI.

On October 22st we heard from Fire Chief Matt Pegg and the work his department has done through this covid pandemic.  Our Impact Report was done by Stephanie Christensen of the Salvation Army Toronto Grace Hospital Centre. Don Brooks was our How We Hobby speaker who explained his encounter with a woman scorned and how revenge is a dish best served cold.

IMPACT REPORT
 
The Club and Foundation work together to have an impact.  Here is a recent example from one of the organizations…
 
The Salvation Army Toronto Grace Health Centre (TGHC) is a mission of The Salvation Army.  The TGHC is a 152-bed facility located in the heart of downtown Toronto, and is renowned for the compassion, clinical excellence and patient-centred care we provide.  The heart of patient-centred care is recognizing that each person has individualized priorities and goals, and each patient’s care plan reflects this.  Through understanding and appreciating the complexity of day-to-day life, the TGHC provides care for individuals with multifaceted chronic diseases who require Complex Continuing Care, Post Acute Care Rehabilitation, Palliative Care, Integrated Transitional Services, and Remote Care Monitoring (RCM) in the Community.
 
Remote Care Monitoring Project
TGHC’s new RCM project within our community ensures the health and safety of our discharged patients when they return home. TGHC’s RCM central command installed equipment in over 200 homes in the Mid-West Toronto Region between April and September 2021.  Our RCM tracks patient activities to address both non-medical (e.g., motion, departure, wound prevention, slips and falls, etc.) and medical (e.g., continuous temperature, blood pressure, O2 saturation, etc.) issues.  The current focus of the TGHC project is complex patients in the marginalized population, including those with medical and non-medical needs, specific to the alternate level of care (ALC) group with challenges in mental health and social determinants of health.  The project underway is also designed to provide in-home support and care, as an alternative to institutional admissions, including acute, chronic, and long-term care.  This program allows our older population who are frail to return to the comfort and familiarity of their own home rather than an alternate level of care facility post hospitalization.  Our program is primed to grow across the Toronto region with the goal to expand to Durham, Mississauga, and Northern Ontario by fiscal year end.
The funds provided by the Rotary Club of Toronto Charitable Foundation of $50,000 over 2 years has already helped us with the installation of the RCM equipment in the homes of those in need in our community.

HOLIDAY HAMPERS PARTIES- OUR FIRST EVENT!
OMG!!!   Christmas is only 9 weeks away… Time for some fun and fellowship!  Your Events Committee is planning our first fellowship fund raising event of this Rotary year , which will take place the week of November the 22nd. The plan is to raise money for Holiday Hampers of food that will be given out to less fortunate groups in the downtown community. For example, Members of Progress Place, the Indigenous community , some Camp Scugog families.
We will raise money by having HOLIDAY HAMPER PARTIES IN YOUR HOMES. We are asking you today to VOLUNTEER to host these parties. They could be Cocktail parties, Dinner parties, Potluck suppers…. Whatever you'd like   Invite your friends, your family, other Rotarians, your neighbors…8-10 people or more! Each party guest is asked to donate $40…. Enough money to buy two holiday hampers of food.
The money will be collected online at the Rotary website. Following the parties, the collected money will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank who will provide the hampers… which will be packed by our club volunteers in early December. Instructions on how to donate electronically will be sent to you next week . In the meantime. Here's your chance to support a good cause and have some fun and fellowship at the same time.
