What you Missed, July 9, 2021
This was new President Prince Kumar's inaugural Meeting! and it was both a fun and serious event. We had 135 attendees in attendance!
Our special guests were members of the Rotary Club of Dar es Salaam Oyster Bay, Tanzania who led us in a song honouring our Four Way Test. You can see them here as well as the full meeting.
We had a very special rendition of 'O Canada' by Anishinabeq Police Services.
Our Impact Statement was done by one of our Club and Foundation recipients by Symphonia Toronto, article below.
Then Michele Guy led us in some dance moves, helped by his friends Diana and Paula.
President Elect Jayson Phelps introduced our Leadership Team for 2021-22 and we are in good (and many) hands as we formally transition into our new model. Watch for our special bulletin featuring the Team.
Our First President Prince Cocktail Meeting, July 14
We shared this meeting with the Rotary Club of Toronto Twilight led by their new president Aby Bueno. Our special guests were District Governor Ron Dick of the Rotary Club of Oshawa, our Assistant Governor Korshed Khan and Governor Elect Iosef Ciosa.
DG Ron thanked our clubs for all our work during this past year and he hopes for similar goals being met this year.
His goals for the District are clear. Membership Growth is number one. He welcomed the addition of the seventh Area of Focus which is the Environment. He will be emphasizing Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Toronto can be proud that we are well on the way with all these goals.
DG Ron is also happy that our Youth Exchange will be back and looking for clubs to assist.

Sinfonia Toronto got a $15,000 grant for their digital inclusion projects in the area of community service and seniors. You can see Margaret’s talk in our July 9th recording here https://linktr.ee/RotaryToronto
Sinfonia Toronto’s Digital Inclusion Project for Students and Seniors
Sinfonia Toronto is a professional chamber orchestra presenting series downtown and in North York. Under the baton of Music Director Nurhan Arman, the orchestra has carried out special projects with ten different multicultural communities.
They play annually in Barrie and Sault Ste-Marie and have played in ten other Ontario cities and toured in the US, Germany, Spain, South America and China, always including music by Canadian composers in tour programs. They have recorded for Analekta, Cambria and Marquis Classics; their cd of music by Ontario composer John Burge won a JUNO.
Pivoting to virtual concerts during the pandemic has allowed Sinfonia Toronto to share their performances widely, connecting with music-lovers across Canada from Surrey to Saint John, in the Yukon, and 23 US states. And the organization turned digital dissemination into a silver lining of outreach, the Digital Inclusion Project.
Rotary Toronto’s sponsorship of two programs this spring helped Sinfonia Toronto cover musicians’ fees and carry out the DIP. The project provides free links to 27 LTC homes to play the orchestra’s virtual concerts for their residents, and free links for non-profit community music schools serving disadvantaged students - the Regent Park School of Music, Sistema Toronto and University Settlement Music School. Students also attend free online seminars a few days before and after each concert date, hosted by diverse pairs of the orchestra’s musicians. Rotary Toronto has helped Sinfonia Toronto mitigate the pandemic isolation of students and seniors, provide educational enrichment, and share the joy of music with two underserved but very deserving communities.

12th Annual AIDS/Community Health Walk, August 11, 2021
This will be our second virtual event - we raised $25,000 last year
Maureen Bird will be emailing you about how to participate or contribute. Funds raised will support the Stephen Lewis Foundation to honour the late Stephen Lewis for all the wonderful work he did to assist those millions in Africa affected by HIV/AIDS.
