Deputy Mayor Ana Bailão serves as City Councillor for Ward 9 (Davenport). She has been a member of Toronto City Council since 2010 and was re-elected in 2018.
As well as serving as a Deputy Mayor, she is the Chair of the Planning and Housing Committee, one of the City's four critical decision making committees along with being a member of the City's Executive Committee. She chairs the Corporations Nominating Panel and is also a member of the board of the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and “CreateTO.” Deputy Mayor Bailão also represents the City of Toronto at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities where she chairs the Social Economic Development Committee.
Deputy Mayor Bailão was a student at West Toronto Collegiate before studying Sociology at the University of Toronto. She has also completed the Directors Education Program, a joint program of the Institute of Corporate Directors and the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management, knowledge she now brings to the boards upon which she serves on behalf of the City of Toronto.
Prior to public service, Deputy Mayor Bailão achieved considerable success within the private sector, developing leadership and consensus building skills while serving in senior roles within the banking and healthcare IT sectors.
With her return to Toronto City Council in 2018, Deputy Mayor Bailão has continued her central role within the City’s government where she is recognized as a decisive, innovative and compassionate decision-maker at Toronto City Council while remaining devoted to serving the Ward 9 (Davenport) community where she grew up and continues to live.

New Member Meeting
Wednesday, November 17 was our first in-person meeting for new and prospective members at the National Club. It was a fantastic meeting with 30 'newbies' mingling with past presidents and other club leaders. Watch for the introduction of more new members in the coming weeks.
IMPACT REPORT
The Club and Foundation work together to have an impact. Here is a recent example from one of the organizations…
On November 12th the speaker was Maureen Aslin, Doula Practicum Coordinator with Hospice Toronto.
Since 1988, Hospice Toronto has been dedicated to significantly improving the quality of life of people living with life-limiting or chronic illness by providing direct care through highly trained volunteers. This model of care allows for people to remain in their homes longer and significantly reduces the financial burden on the health care system.
Hospice Toronto is committed to helping clients who are struggling with food insecurity and other essential services including caregiving, grief and bereavement support and mental health support.
Rotary Funding Impact
Rotary Funding has opened the path for doulas candidates to be specifically trained and supported in caring for those who need it the most – people who are underhoused, street active, and living with a life-limiting illness. This funding will support underhoused and street involved people to get help on their own terms in their final months, weeks, days. It has given Hospice Toronto & Home Hospice Assoc a better understanding of the training needed for doulas to become comfortable working with this very marginalized clientele. And finally, it has given us all the opportunity to learn what it means to be human and how our mortality is universal. This is truly life changing.
HOLIDAY HAMPERS PARTIES- OUR FIRST EVENT!
OMG!!! Christmas is only 5 weeks away… Time for some fun and fellowship! Your Events Committee is planning our first fellowship fund raising event of this Rotary year , which will take place the week of November the 22nd. The plan is to raise money for Holiday Hampers of food that will be given out to less fortunate groups in the downtown community. For example, Members of Progress Place, the Indigenous community , some Camp Scugog families.
The money will be collected online at the Rotary website here.
Following the parties, the collected money will be donated to the Daily Bread Food Bank who will provide the hampers… which will be packed by our club volunteers in early December. Here's your chance to support a good cause and have some fun and fellowship at the same time.

Seniors Gift Bag Delivery - Sweat Equity
In lieu of our traditional Christmas lunch for seniors we are packing 200 gift bags to be delivered to clients of the agencies we support.
15-20 DRIVERS ARE NEEDED the week of November 29th to deliver the bags.
