Selvyn Simoes is a food scientist from Toronto, Ontario. Originally an organic chemist by training, Selvyn has dabbled in the science of solar cells, chocolate, catalysis and food structuring. There is not a single second of the day where he is not thinking about food as it relates to his research or next meal. Selvyn believes that food brings everyone to the table regardless of life experience. And, at this table, Selvyn would like to share their love of food with you.

In the first half of our party, we’ll be taking a look at our topic of COVID +. Detailing all the good things that have happened in society since the pandemic. Scientific breakthroughs, advances in technology and the like.
In our second part of our cocktail party, we’ll be playing a game of ‘Who Dun It”. The game will involve new members working with seasoned members in a competitive game to try and match the event with the member.
There will be PRIZES for 1st 2nd & 3rd place winners. So please grab a cocktail and come and have a good time with us!

The Rotary Club of Toronto celebrates Black History Month with this year’s Canadian national theme – “February and Forever: Celebrating Black History today and every day.”
We encourage all members to reflect upon their individual journeys and celebrate the impactful contributions of Black Canadians in Toronto and across Canada, including those of our own remarkable members. Let us also listen, learn and take meaningful action to eradicate all forms of racism and barriers while continually driving for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for everyone every day. Our Club has started this process with our DEI Working Group.

Last week we featured a powerful and informative video presentation ‘The Many Roads to Freedom’ in recognition of Canadian Black History; Music from Oscar Peterson and produced and compiled by Lauris DaCosta (www.hymntofreedom.ca )

During covid so many of us have changed where we live and how we communicate. Addresses, phone numbers and email addresses may need updating. You can do this yourself on our website. Go to rotarytoronto.com and login on top blue line with your ID and password. Go to Member Area - on blue line.
Click EDIT PROFILE. This takes you to your information. If fine, OK. If not click EDIT at the top, make changes and then at bottom click SAVE. Don't forget to SAVE!

The Club and Foundation work together to have an impact. Here is a recent example from one of our projects.
Our Remembrance Tree at Roundhouse Park
We can be very proud of the team which raised over $11,000 with this event.
Despite only two weeks of having it staffed, horrendous weather, glass falling from the CN tower and Covid causing staffing difficulties, we came together and made this work.
Many thanks to team leaders Anny-Sandra Hamel and Jayson Phelps and all the helpers. Next year (post Covid) this should be a fabulous fundraiser for us.
Catch The Ace - our Latest Fundraiser!
Our club is participating in a New Rotary Raffle that is being sponsored by a number of Rotary clubs in Ontario. The raffle is called Catch the Ace, similar to our Ace of Clubs draw that we used to hold at our live meetings ….. this one is played online. All you have to do is go to Linktr.ee/RotaryToronto and you will be connected to our club’s landing page. You can buy a ticket in $5, $10 or $20 increments. The winners are posted weekly on the website and depending on your tickets and the card you choose you may win the weekly draw prize or even the jackpot…. Our club receives $0.85 for every $5 purchase, $2.95 for every $10 purchase and $7.15 for every $20 purchase.
