Nathan Tidridge teaches Canadian history, government, and Indigenous studies at Waterdown District High School, Ontario. He is author of Canada’s Constitutional Monarchy (2011), Prince Edward, Duke of Kent (2013), The Queen at the Council Fire (2015), and various chapters including “Treaty Spaces: Canada’s Chapels Royal” in A Resilient Crown: Canada's Monarchy at the Platinum Jubilee (2022). He is a member of the national advisory council for the Prince’s Trust Canada, and a vice president of the Institute for the Study of the Crown in Canada and a former member of the Board for the Ontario Heritage Trust. He was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal in 2018 for his work in educating Canadians on the role of the Crown and its relationships with Indigenous communities. He received a Governor General’s award for excellence in teaching history in 2020.

A Rotary/Indigenous fundraising event of community coming together
Join us as we celebrate Rotary fellowship and Indigenous culture. Miinawaa—Eyiizh / And — Both will bring together Rotarians and Indigenous guests for an evening of stirring Indigenous entertainment and exciting live and silent auctions. Guests will also enjoy Indigenous-themed hors d’oeuvres from En Ville catering, and a cash bar.

Our partner for this evening, which will receive half the proceeds, is Keeping the Circle Strong Camp Programs, supported by the Indigenous Spirit Fund (Native Child and Family Services of Toronto). The camps allow young people, many of whom live in city apartments and basements, to have their first experiences connecting with nature. At the camps they learn the history of the land, culture and land-based survival skills, and participate in teamwork tasks that build confidence and self-esteem.
The other half of our proceeds will go to our Club’s philanthropic committees.

Making a direct impact with Ukraine Aid – We have amassed over $140,000 for ShelterBox
ShelterBox is looking at providing both shelter within Ukraine for people who have been displaced and aid packages with essentials like blankets, solar lights, sleeping mats and so on, for refugees who make it out of the country. Our Rotary Toronto Charitable Foundation approved $15,000 plus matching towards this disaster relief via ShelterBox Canada. Significant donations were received from the Andras Family Foundation, other Rotary Clubs as well as patrons and staff of DMP Flowers & Gifts.

Applegrove is a multi-service agency that delivers a variety of programs and services, hosts meetings and events, supports action on local issues, partners with others, and provides volunteer and employment opportunities. Our work is about supporting individuals and families, strengthening communities and building a better Toronto.
The Peer Connect Project is an ongoing program aimed at connecting with isolated seniors in the community. Trained volunteers make weekly calls to participants to check-in, provide additional resources when needed and connect them to other programs that will allow them to build connections.
The funds provided from The Rotary Club of Toronto allowed our lines to stay open and our volunteers to continue the important of work of building community connections. Through these calls, our volunteers have had the opportunity to build long term connections with our participants. Through the trust, our volunteers have been a source of support and friendship during these isolating and difficult times. Volunteer and participant feedback has reported that the impact of social connection by peers through this program was significant.

Our District Conference is back live!

The upcoming District Conference is from May 13 to 15 at the Courtyard by Marriott in Oshawa. Our Club will be hosting a hospitality suite at the conference. It is a wonderful opportunity to meet Rotarians from our 54 clubs and exchange experiences. The organizers have created a fabulous program for expanding our knowledge and also entertainment.

Our club receives $0.85 for every $5 purchase, $2.95 for every $10 purchase and $7.15 for every $20 purchase.
With Covid still affecting us this is one way to help our club.
