Andrew Phillips has been editor of the Toronto Star’s editorial pages since January 2011. Previously he was editor of the Victoria Times Colonist and The Gazette in Montreal.
He has also been a writer and editor at The Montreal Gazette, CBC Television News and Maclean’s, where he also held the post of European Bureau Chief, as well as business editor of the Star.
He holds a degree in history and economics from McGill University and taught journalism at Concordia University.

Our Newest Addition!
Congratulations to Andrea Tirone and Lucas Runco as they welcomed their son, Francesco Julian Tirone Runco, on December 11, 2022.
He weighed in at an impressive 8 lb 13 oz.
All are doing well and although Andrea is on leave she welcomes email and calls.
Welcome New Member Avi Versanov
Avi Versanov was born in Tel Aviv, Israel, then came to Toronto. He has an undergrad degree in Psychology and a Master in Social Work.
He worked as a child protection investigator for fifteen years. During this time he had become aware of the numerous issues that may arise and he joined similar-thinking individuals from across the world interested in reforming child protection. Avi has worked with many child protection organizations in North America and Europe and has also developed a passion for organizational change management and decided to expand his focus to include other sectors.
Today he is a Partner in ATA Consultancy.
At this junction in his life, he is eager and keen to step back from work into volunteering. He came across the Rotary Toronto Club and the more he read, he
realized that Rotary is an entity that would support and facilitate his passion for positive, creative, innovative, and lasting change.
Environmental Working Group
Key climate change targets are not likely to be met as shown by the recent COP27 meeting in Egypt.
Biodiversity is deteriorating worldwide and this decline is projected to worsen with business-as-usual
scenarios despite meetings like COP15. The Ontario government is reducing or eliminating legislation and organizations designed to protect our environment.
Rotary International has mandated protecting the environment its seventh Area of Focus. In the face of these threats to our environment and to further RI’s mandate, The Rotary Club of Toronto Environmental Working Group (EWG) is undertaking efforts to improve the environment and biodiversity in the City of Toronto. Members have participated in various environment related projects and have helped arrange funding for like-minded organizations. The challenge is almost overwhelming and our EWG is small. For ourselves and for future generations we need HELP! More members involved in developing and participating in efforts to improve our environment can be a rewarding experience.
