Carol Radford-Grant has been the City Archivist for the City of Toronto since 2012. The Toronto Archives preserves and provides access to historical government and non-government records that make a significant contribution to an understanding of the development of the City, its natural and built environment, and the people who lived, worked, or had an impact upon Toronto. The collection consists of over 1.26 million photographs and thousands of paper files containing minutes, correspondence, assessment rolls, directories, maps, and architectural plans.
Before joining the City of Toronto, Carol specialized in regulatory records, working in various positions for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Archives of Ontario, and the Ontario College of Teachers.
Carol holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Philosophy from Western University and a Masters in Information Studies from the University of Toronto. This summer, she completed a Graduate Diploma in Public Administration from Western University. In 2019, she received an Arbor Award for her sustained volunteer contributions to the University of Toronto.
100 Years of Moving Toronto: Stories from the TTC Archives
Before establishing the TTC on September 1, 1921, transit options in Toronto were fragmented, inadequate, and expensive. The TTC ushered in an era of consolidation and expansion that accompanied and accelerated the astonishing growth of Toronto as a city. Drawing from the extensive TTC Archives, this presentation will feature some of the stories and records from the TTC’s history.

August 27 our How We Hobby speaker was Lori Brazier talking about her workout experiences. The meeting was hybrid with 20 club members in attendance at the National Club. The speaker was Falconer Dan Frankian who had President Prince handle one of the large birds. We apologize for the technical difficulties during the presentation.
We also had a special In Memoriam for member John Talman.
September 1 was a President's Cocktails but led by Community Outreach co-Chairs Daniel Massicotte and Suzanne Boggild. The meeting was lively with many contributions regarding needs in the city. Poverty and homelessness topped the priorities.

We will be honouring two 2021 Scholarship Winners and hearing from the latest graduates. This will be a hybrid meeting so registering to attend in person must be done through Carol.

Our recent recipient:
▪Purpose and Goal:
▪To assist and support YAY youth and families with their academics and create meaningful opportunities to build social connections.
▪ Program Structure:
▪1:1 tutoring by trained youth volunteer tutors;
▪Group tutoring including arts & crafts clubs, Young Readers Bedtime Stories, ESL Conversation Circles and Kahoot Nights.
▪ Age of participants and tutors:
▪Students are between 6 and 15 years of age;
▪Currently, tutors are between the ages of 18 and 29 years of age.
▪Impact, Benefits and Successes:
▪Students are more efficient with homework, improve reading and English skills;
▪Students build social skills, relationships and form new connections;
▪Tutors gain leadership abilities, critical thinking skills and empathy;
▪Pathway to establishing strong 1:1 mentor matches.
Congratulations to our Syrian Newcomer Family!!
Muneer and Lubna al Zahabi and their children, Sarah, Sami and Karam became proud Canadian citizens on Wednesday, September 8th.
It has been quite a journey since fleeing from Damascus Syria in October 2012, being refugees in Jordan, connecting with our club in February 2016 to finally arriving in Toronto on May 10, 2017.
Muneer has recently been working at CBC with a degree in Television Broadcasting from Seneca and both Muneer and Lubna are continuing educational pursuits.
The Zahabi family thanks club members and friends who made this possible.

Please come to the annual District 7070 walk in support of the Rotary Foundation — Sunday, September 26, 2021. Enjoy a leisurely morning as you stroll through historic Trenton and help The Trenton Rotary Club celebrate 100 years of service to Rotary.
The starting point will be Centennial Park in Trenton.

Join fellow Rotarians for engaging sessions to learn and grow your knowledge of Rotary. RLI is a three part course and each part consists of three 2 hour sessions.
RLI Part 1 - Fall 2021 - Wed Sept 15, Wed Sept 22, Wed Sept 29th, all from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. When registering for part 1, you are registering for all three sessions.
You are encouraged to complete RLI Part 1 through Part 3 and must do so in sequence.
All RLI sessions for the 2021/2022 Rotary year will be conducted via Zoom videoconference. Registered attendees will receive an email with the zoom link on the day of your learning. Your $20 registration fee will be directed as a donation to The Rotary Foundation.
