Mark Aston has dedicated his career to taking action against poverty and homelessness and brings a unique passion and specialized knowledge to Canada’s largest agency serving youth who are homeless, trafficked or at risk.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector, Mark joined Covenant House Toronto in 2019, after first serving as Executive Director and then CEO of Fred Victor, which he transformed the organization into one of the leading social service agencies addressing homelessness and poverty in Toronto.
Mark has extensive and varied experience in public policy development, system change initiatives, Board and sector leadership, revenue development and volunteerism. He is also the founder and leads the Toronto Alliance to End Homelessness, a volunteer organization comprised of 50 organizations—including Covenant House—focused on ending chronic homelessness in Toronto. Mark brings a shared focus of respect, compassion and unconditional love to the work we do supporting youth who are transforming their lives and exploring their potential.

New Member Esther Ijewere
Esther Ijewere, originally from Lagos, Nigeria she found a profound passion for advocacy and media as a social activist and women's advocate in her university years
In 2015, she spotlighted female achievers via her Women of Rubies column in The Guardian newspaper. This endeavour evolved into a community and
communications outfit operating in Nigeria and Canada. Esther is an avid volunteer and her deep-seated
commitment to gender equality shines through in both her professional and volunteer endeavours.
As a single mom of two girls, ages 11 and 10, Esther currently resides in downtown Toronto.
Another New Member Geoffrey Huck
Geoffrey Huck is an Associate Professor Emeritus in the Writing Department at York University. He is the author,
coauthor, or editor of four academic books and numerous scholarly articles.
He received his A.B. in English from Dartmouth College, his M.A. in linguistics from the University of Colorado, and his Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of
Chicago.
He grew up in the Morgan Park community in Chicago and served in the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant In charge of a personnel data branch during the Vietnam War.
While in graduate school, he worked for Rand McNally Publishing Company as its
sociology editor and the University of Chicago Press as its acquiring editor for
economics and cognitive science. When he moved from Chicago to Toronto in 1988,
he established a Toronto office of the University of Chicago Press.
