At the start of today's Rotary lunch, President Binoy treated us to a visual imagery capturing the magical transformation of Toronto's landscape, as it transitions from the winter wonderland we know and love, to the vibrant and colorful cityscape that emerges with the arrival of spring. The stunning visuals served as a delightful reminder of the ever-changing beauty that surrounds us in this great city we call home!
The savoury aroma of Chicken Parmigiana wafted through the air and the delicate flavours of lemon meringue tart teased our palates, it was clear that the National Club chefs had once again outdone themselves.
With our taste buds still dancing and the warm atmosphere of fellowship surrounding us, President Binoy returned to the lectern and delivered a heartfelt Traditional Lands Acknowledgement, followed by an uplifting Invocation that moved us all. The "Tribute to Nature" rendition of O'Canada, by the talented Ricky Kej, truly captivated our hearts and minds. The melody filled the room, reminding us of the beauty and richness of our great nation.
The spirit of camaraderie continued as President Binoy extended a warm invitation to our newer member, Camellia Mohamadi, to take the lectern and lead us in our cherished Rotary Toast.
Keynote Speaker: Robert Fox
C.E.O. Ontario MD
Past-President John Fortney introduced Robert (Rob) Fox, CEO of OntarioMD. Rob also happens to be an ex-member of The Rotary Club of Toronto. He is looking forward to re-join the club in the next couple of years.
Robert Fox, CEO of OntarioMD, captivated the Rotary audience with a visionary exploration of how artificial intelligence (AI) can revolutionize Ontario's healthcare system. Despite the complexity of the industry, AI has the potential to confront key challenges and pave the way for accessible and efficient care for all.
Challenges Facing Ontario's Healthcare System:
• 4.4 million Ontarians will be without a family doctor by 2026.
• 74% of Ontarians struggle to secure same-day or next-day appointments.
• Doctors spend 19 hours per week on admin work, diverting focus from patient care.
In response, the government has pledged to expand primary care access for all Ontarians.
The Digital Health Solution:
AI emerges as a potent ally to overcome these obstacles. Through data integration, virtual care, and AI-driven tools, digital health promises a more streamlined and patient-centric healthcare experience. Benefits include:
• Improved patient record-keeping and care coordination
• Increased accessibility, especially in remote areas
• Enhanced efficiency and reduced administrative burden for providers
AI Scribe: A Trailblazing Innovation
OntarioMD's AI Scribe stands at the forefront of this revolution. By optimizing processes, leveraging predictive analytics for early disease detection, and alleviating administrative tasks, AI Scribe empowers doctors to focus on their patients. Available to all doctors, AI Scribe is a testament to AI's integration into everyday medical practice.
Addressing Remaining Hurdles
Despite the promise of digital health, obstacles like integration, equity, privacy concerns, and adoption must be addressed. As we navigate this transformative landscape, the Rotary community and its partners will continue championing these crucial conversations, striving for a healthier future for all Ontarians.
As Robert Fox astutely reminded us, the future of healthcare is digital - and it has already begun. Let us seize this moment and work together to ensure the life-enhancing benefits of AI become a reality for every member of our community.
During our meeting, there was also an Annual General Meeting session to elect the new Vice-President and Directors who had been nominated by the Nominations Committee chaired by Past-President Anny-Sandra Hamel.
The elected members are as follows:
These dedicated Rotarians bring a wealth of experience and passion to their roles, and we are confident that their leadership will further strengthen our club and enhance our collective impact within the community.
We encourage you to join us in congratulating the new Vice-President and the new Directors on their appointments and extending your full support as they embark on this journey to serve our club and the greater community.
Thank you for your continued commitment to The Rotary Club of Toronto and our mission of "Service Above Self."
We also had the pleasure of hosting a few guests, including a Rotarian and two ex-Rotaractors.

Rotary at the St Patrick's Day Parade - March 16th
The rain poured, the wind howled, and the Toronto traffic snarled, but nothing could dampen the spirits of a dedicated group of Rotarians who marched proudly in the St. Patrick's Day Parade. More than just enduring the elements, participating in the vibrant celebration of Irish heritage is testament to the power of community engagement.
"Well..., we did it!", reflecting the immense satisfaction derived from contributing to Toronto's rich cultural tapestry. The parade wasn't just a spectacle; it was an opportunity to connect with the community, acknowledging its history and reaffirming a commitment to making a positive impact. As we waved enthusiastically to bystanders and exchanged smiles with parade-goers, it was clear that our presence was appreciated and valued. Our motto of “Service Above Self” has truly shone through.
I extend a heartfelt Thank You to each and every one of you for making the St Patrick's Day parade a success! Without your commitment, dedication and resolve we would not have been able to make it happen.
Rotary District 7070, The Rotary Club of Toronto, and the Rotary Club of Etobicoke came together to make great things happen!
Thank you for taking part and we look forward to next year's St Patick's Day Parade!
Sláinte! (Cheers!)

Sanitary Pads Sewing Project - April 5th
In many rural areas, including Consuelo in the Dominican Republic, girls face a monthly challenge: lack of access to menstrual hygiene products. This affects their health, well-being, and causes them to miss at least five days of school each month, limiting their education and future opportunities.
On Saturday, April 5th, 2025, join us for the Sanitary Pad Sewing Project as we assemble 250 reusable menstruation kits for girls in the Dominican Republic. Each kit includes flannel liners, shields, underwear, and hygiene supplies. These kits will help girls continue their education with dignity and confidence.
No sewing experience? No problem! Whether you’re cutting fabric, sewing, or assembling kits, every helping hand makes a difference. Together, let’s stitch a path to education and empowerment.

The Community Outreach Committee is on the lookout for charities working within the downtown Toronto area that we haven't crossed paths with who could benefit from our support. If you know of a registered charity that supports our local Toronto community and could use a helping hand, please contact Community Outreach Committee Co-Chair Bert Steenburgh (bert@stonefortress.ca) with the charity's name and any other intel you have. We will take it from there and follow-up on the lead.
Be on the lookout: If you see a social media post in the months ahead regarding community outreach, we would appreciate your support in re-posting/sharing with your social media networks to spread the word.
The fine print: In the past, we have supported food banks, seniors' centres, shelters for those experiencing homelessness, and music programs for children, among many others. Funding requests for travel, conferences, advocacy, and large capital campaigns are generally not eligible.
