Program Committee – Our Mandate

It is the responsibility of this committee to provide programs/speakers each Friday. In so doing, the committee keeps in mind the acronym ISEE (inform, serve, educate and entertain). We invite anyone in the club who has a program idea to present it to any members of the committee. The committee meets on the third Tuesday of each month.

Program Committee Annual Report 2013-2014

Background:
The Program Committee identifies and arranges for speakers for the Friday luncheon events. A great many Rotarians offer suggestions to the committee, which it gratefully acknowledges. Speakers educate and inform members and provide a thoughtful and entertaining opportunity for members to acquaint friends as prospective members of the Club.
Program commitments are typically made four or more months in advance. Speakers are not paid fees, nor are travelling or other expenses paid by the Club.  Audio visual expenses assessed by the Fairmont Royal York are paid out of the Club’s operating budget.
The annual program typically has these components:
  1. Speeches by our new President and District Governor setting forth their priorities for the coming year
  2. Special events such as Remembrance Day and the Christmas Party
  3. Prominent public officials, particularly during election periods
  4. Professionals dealing with areas of political, economic, personal and advancement interest to members
  5. Leaders in the business, educational, medical and research communities
  6. Participants describing outcomes of projects funded by the Toronto Rotary.

Program Committee Annual Report 2010-2011

This past year the Program Committee has worked to fulfill its mandate in providing speakers for the Friday lunches that inform, serve, educate and entertain (ISEE). It has been most fortunate in that it had little difficulty in attracting a variety of outstanding speakers who were within the committee’s guidelines.

The committee is grateful to the members of the Club for their suggestions of possible speakers. Continued suggestions will always be welcomed. You may not be aware of the fact that any member of the Club may attend a Program Committee meeting and bring with them speaker suggestions. In addition, some speakers have, on their own, offered to address the Club.

The committee is of the opinion that if it completes its work well, it will be reflected in attendance at our meetings. Further, it feels that in no small way the committee works hand in hand with the Membership Committee in helping to attract new Club members.

During this past year the speakers were selected from a variety of backgrounds. These ranged from municipal politics, entertainment, communication, medical matters, local and overseas projects, business and government leaders, women’s issues, social services and even some guests who were simply entertaining. With this variety of speakers, the committee is of the opinion that it has brought ISEE to the club.

I am most grateful for the input given by each of the committee members. Aside from attendance at meetings, each member worked diligently in communicating, hosting and introducing the speakers. It was a privilege to have worked with each one of them.

Ross Amos is the incoming chair. I feel comfortable that under his chairmanship the meetings for this coming year will continue to meet the guidelines given to the committee and as Rotary members, we can look forward to excellent speakers and we will be delighted to bring guests with us.

Harold Hetherington

Chair
